Admissions and Tuition Information

Introduction

The MSM Online MPH (eMPH) program encourages applications for admission and financial aid without regard to sex, race, handicap, color, creed, nationality or ethnic. Acceptance to the eMPH program is based on the profile of the applicant. This profile includes: academic qualifications, work experiences, community or volunteer service, career goals, and the relative strength of each applicant compared to the current pool of applicants.

All applications, transcripts, test scores and letters of reference are housed in the MSM Office of Admissions. Additional information about application materials and the admissions process may be obtained by calling the Office of Admissions and Student Affairs at (404) 752-1650.

Program Features

  • The eMPH program focuses on providing unique opportunities for students to become engaged in community engagement, leadership and policy, student-directed learning, problem solving, and the development of skills/competencies essential to the practice of public health.
  • Our graduates of the program are working at community-based organizations, as well as local, state, national, and international agencies. Additionally, many have pursued terminal degrees including MD, PhD, DrPH, and JD, as well as other advanced degrees (e.g., MBS, PA).

Minimum Academic Requirements

Description

To be admitted into the MSM online eMPH degree program, you must meet the following requirements:

  1. Hold a bachelor鈥檚 degree, or equivalent, from a U.S. school accredited by a regional accrediting organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or the U.S. Department of Education.
  2. Demonstrate capability to study at the graduate level (Academic and Professional)
  3. A minimum of five years of post-baccalaureate work experience (Work experience in the health or public health sectors is not required).

Prerequisites:

  • Grade Point Average
    A minimum 3.0 grade point average in undergraduate or graduate coursework as indicated on an official transcript. (International students are not required to submit a GPA if grades are not scored in this way). Occasional consideration may be given to those who do not meet this requirement if other measures of professional work experience is strong.
  • Math or statistics course completion
    At least one college-level mathematics or statistics course completed with at least a grade of B or equivalent, as indicated on an official transcript.
  • Familiarity and aptitude in biological or social sciences
    No specific major is required. Majors in the physical sciences and or social sciences are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • GRE/Test Scores *Optional*

    Valid GRE scores are required EXCEPT IF YOU are a professional degree holder.
    Professional Degree Holders - Have completed an MD, PhD, or equivalent doctoral-level degree from an accredited institution when you apply. Equivalent doctoral-level degrees are defined as: chiropractic, dentistry, education (EdD), medicine, optometry, osteopathy, podiatry, pharmacy, and veterinary. Applicants with a terminal professional degree are exempt from test scores with an active professional license in their field. Applicants who do not possess an active professional license in their field must submit their doctoral transcripts.

    MCAT, DAT, OAT, GMAT, or LSAT scores, respectively, in lieu of the GRE scores are accepted. Other professional school exams will not be eligible as alternatives to the GRE exam. (Note: If you are currently enrolled in a clinically based professional degree program (e.g., MD, DO, DMD, DVM, OD, PharmD), you must complete your degree requirements before the application deadline of the semester to which you are applying.)
    GRE scores are valid for five years from the year in which you took the exam.

Application Instructions

The following information must be submitted:

  2. Official transcripts (from all undergraduate and graduate institutions).
    • Upload all unofficial transcripts electronically as a single PDF including all undergraduate and graduate work.  All transcripts must include your name, university for college name, course names and grades, degrees conferred (if applicable), and degree conferral date (if applicable).
  3. Official Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores (from within the past five years) *Optional*
  4. Two letters of reference
    • At least one from a former professor (speaking to your academic potential)
    • one from a current or former employer (speaking to your professional potential).
  5. Personal Narrative Statement (2-3 pages)
  6. Resume/CV
  7. Documentation of Work Experience Form (Submit at least one form that provides verification of 3-5 years of work experience)
  8. Application Fee ($50)
  9. Interview

International applicants are required to submit TOEFL/ECFMG English test scores and a Silny or WES evaluation of foreign academic credentials.

International applicants are also required to submit:

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language for foreign students whose first language is not English. A passing score on the ECFMG English test is acceptable for foreign medical graduates.

Professional Degree Holders:

  • Applicants with a terminal professional degree are exempt from test scores with an active professional license in their field. Applicants who do not possess an active professional license in their field must submit their doctoral transcripts.

International Applicants

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language for foreign students whose first language is not English. A passing score on the ECFMG English test is acceptable for foreign medical graduates.
  • Applicants with a terminal professional degree are exempt from test scores with an active professional license in their field. Applicants who do not possess an active professional license in their field must submit their doctoral transcripts.
  • Applicants must submit completed application in order to be considered for a personal interview. Completed applications consist of the: application form, $50.00 non-refundable application fee, photograph, official transcripts, official test score reports, personal narrative statement, and reference letters. International applicants are required to submit TOEFL/ECFMG English test scores and a Silny or WES evaluation of foreign academic credentials.

Application Deadlines

Application for rolling admissions for Fall admittance begins September 1st and ends March 1st.  

Application Deadline for International Students is Janaury 1st

Only those applications that are complete, including official test score reports (optional), received recommender information, and official (or uploaded unofficial) transcripts will receive interview consideration. Official transcript(s) will be needed before prior to admittance.

The MPH Admissions Committee makes the final selection and notifies accepted applicants. All applications, transcripts, test scores and letters of reference are housed in the MSM Office of Admissions. 

An application will not be considered until all materials (including test scores (optional)) have been received.
