Substance Use, Prevention and Treatment Division
The National Center for Primary Care Substance Use, Prevention and Treatment Division is located at ÎÞÂëÈËÆÞ School of Medicine. This division is devoted to cultivating effective evidence-based research, practices that improve treatment access and outcomes, develop alliances to support and implement best treatment and prevention practices to increase the awareness, knowledge and skills of practitioners and pre-service professionals.
The Substance Use, Prevention and Treatment Division was established to:
- foster cultural appropriateness, 
- cultivate system change,
- disseminate addiction prevention and treatment information,
- identify resources, and
- promote science to service prevention and treatment approaches that support workforce development and practice improvement. 
To engage the prevention, treatment and recovery community, the Substance Use, Prevention and Treatment Division:
- sponsors and co-sponsors training events;
- plans with public and private organizations in partnerships and collaborations;
- addresses the special needs of specific populations to support cultural appropriateness; and
- provides technical assistance to the addiction prevention, treatment, and faith communities.
The Substance Use, Prevention and Treatment Division also  provides continuing education in addiction prevention and treatment to pre-service and practicing professionals. It also continues to expand our network of regional substance abuse and prevention professionals by recruiting students into the field of addictions and providing relevant academic curriculum and training. Addiction and prevention educators, the recovery population, clinicians in the areas of primary care, mental health and HIV/AIDS, community and faith-based organizations also receive current information on addiction.
